SiteSafe is an initiative to minimise the risk of fire on timber frame construction sites. Take a look at the FAQ below to learn why SiteSafe is singularly the most critical initiative the UKTFA is working on this year.
What is SiteSafe?
SiteSafe goes above and beyond current legislative procedures and relies on collaborative working of the entire construction supply chain to reduce the risk of fire on timber frame construction sites. The initiative is a mandatory requirement of membership.
How does SiteSafe work?
SiteSafe ensures UKTFA manufacturing member companies, that are working on large projects (4 storeys or more and/or with an aggregate floor area of more than 2,500 m2) give clear concise information and assistance to the Principal Contractor regarding fire safety on construction sites.
SifeSafe is implemented through a three stage process which starts from pre-construction planning through to erection of the timber frame on site and then finally the hand-over of the structure.
SiteSafe ensures all contractors involved in timber frame sites are fully briefed on identifying fire risks during the construction phase. While the responsibility for addressing the fire risk lies with the principal contractor, SiteSafe provides a framework through which any risk can be consistently communicated so that appropriate action can be taken.
Has SiteSafe been approved by the relevant fire authorities?
SiteSafe is approved by the Chief Fire Officers Association.
Peter Holland, Vice President of the Chief Fire Officers Association and Chief Fire Officer of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has said: ”A timber frame construction site that has adopted and applied SiteSafe is really doing as much as it can to minimise the risk of fire on site. The UKTFA has developed a set of working practices that embrace legislation in such a way that SiteSafe is non-invasive yet adds a robust layer of actions throughout the construction process that minimise the risk of fire. SiteSafe will only be successful if contractors recognise that managing fire is no one organisation’s responsibility. By addressing fire risk through SiteSafe and keeping the local Fire and Rescue Service in the loop throughout the construction of a timber frame building, the Fire and Rescue Service can develop a response and action plan that previously we would not have been able to do.”
